RWI seeks a researcher with a minimum of ten years’ experience in law, public finance, urban planning, development economics or related field to provide research, data analysis and other support to the Mongolia Country Coordinator. The position is located in Ulaanbaatar and requires liaising and reporting to the Mongolia Country Coordinator.
The researcher is responsible for completing subnational scoping for Mongolia. This entails conducting secondary research of documents and websites, identifying relevant national and local actors for interviews, developing guiding questions in consultation with Mongolia Country Coordinator and conducting relevant interviews, and writing the scoping document in English. In addition the researcher will organize and present at a subnational consultation workshop in Mongolia in September 2014.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Conduct internet and document review
- Identify experts in the area of local governance and decentralization in Mongolia as well as national and local government and company representatives to conduct interviews
- Develop guiding questions and conduct interviews of relevant actors
- Write the scoping document based on research and consultation with interviewees and staff
- Organize a subnational consultation workshop in September 2014. Organization includes developing the agenda, identifying and inviting relevant participants, presenting the research and developing next steps.
Education/Experience: At least ten years’ experience in law, public finance, urban planning, development economics or related field. Ideally the researcher would be based in Ulaanbaatar. RWI would consider applicants based outside Mongolia who can travel to the country for data collection and interviews.
Skills Required:
- Excellent verbal and writing skills in English and Mongolian
- Demonstrated research abilities
- Familiarity with database management, data analysis and dataset preparation
- Competence to work independently on research, data and writing assignments
Compensation:
The researcher will be compensated monthly and any additional expenses such as travel to field will be separately reimbursed.
