Investigative journalists in Azerbaijan and Georgia can take part in a new competition that will provide new topics and awards each month. The six-month project starts in November.
The competition is a project of the Caucasus Media Investigations Center (CMIC), with funding from the Azerbaijan office of the Open Society Institute (OSI). Each month of the project brings a new competition on a new topic, with awards going to the six best stories.
There is one first prize worth US$200, two second prizes worth US$100 each, and three third prizes worth US$50 each. To be eligible, submitted stories should have already been broadcast or published in local media.
Submissions should be in Azeri, English or Russian. For the first month, the topic is protecting the rights of children and fighting child labor and abuse. The competition for that topic begins on November 15, and the deadline to submit articles for the competition is December 15.
Topics to follow include corruption, human trafficking, problems of disabled people, drug trafficking and abuse, and gender issues.
